bowaldfest '08

The boys and I headed to Illinois yesterday (terry was out of town). . . it was once again time for the annual "Bowaldfest." Simply, it means lots of food, tons conversation, a few games for the kids and a great time to hang out and catch up with family. In the photos above, the kids had to eat as much of an apple as they could without touching it--very funny--we had lots of laughs. The photo of Grant was my favorite pic of the day!

Do you ever get your child's class photo and think, "Why in the world did that mom dress her kid in sweat pants for picture day??!!??" I say the same thing every year. I just can't believe someone thinks a scuzzy shirt and nasty pants are photo appropriate!

Well, this year ALL the other moms are going to be saying that about MY KID! Yes, today was picture day for Cole and I spaced it. He went to school in sweat athletic shorts, a t-shirt, tennis shoes and his old glasses (like he does every Wed. . . .he stays at school until 2 pm and they play hard when pre-K is over at 11:30).

I don't usually drive for Pre-K on Wednesdays, but the other mom who drives was sick. So, off I go to pick up the 3 boys and it wasn't until I dropped of the other 2 boys and one of the other moms said, "cool comb!" did it even begin to dawn on me what today was.

"Cole, was it picture day at school today?"
"Yep!"
"Did you remember that it was picture day?" I asked.
"Yeah, I just didn't want to tell ya!"

Smart kid--he knew he would have to dress up!

Is it ok for me to chalk this up under the "He's the 3rd kid" category??

fall baseball

Luke passed up football to play fall baseball this season. . .for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He tends to play first base and short stop most games, is doing a great job and we enjoy watching his sharpened skills!

time for tuttle's apple orchard

Here we are again. . . at the apple orchard. Terry and I were talking on the way to the orchard and we had decided that we have been going to Tuttle's for about 11 years! wow! what was once a quiet little orchard has grown and become a pretty popular place for people to go every fall.

Our boys love, love, LOVE to take part in this tradition. They were after us all day to get out the door to go. . .it was hard for them to have patience for us to get a few things done around the house! As always, caramel apples are a treat when we are done apple picking. I thought it was fun to capture their faces while eating--everyone worked so hard at enjoying their food!

hoosier flag football

Grant and Cole are playing Upward flag football on the same team this year--IU Hoosiers. They had their first game yesterday--what looked like rain quickly turned to a sunny day. The boys had fun, and we enjoyed watching them play together.

The day was perfect for every kid--for opening day, the church where they play at had bounce houses and games as well as snacks and lunch!

welcome home, jessa!

We want to welcome home sweet Jessa! Our dear friends have been waiting almost 3 years for her arrival. . .and this week they flew home from China with their new little one! She joins her brother (3rd grade) and sister (21 months) who's love will help ease her adjustment. Jessa is absolutely beautiful--aren't those cheeks adorable??!!? Please pray for her adjustment to her new home and family.

leavin' on a jet plane

Grant and Cole pass a lot of time by sitting around and talking. . .about a whole lot of nothing. Usually these conversations happen while swinging on the swing set, but this week they have set up an "airplane" on the back patio. The dog gets to go on every trip-they have been to China, Iowa, Wisconsin, Florida, India (to see the Cheetah Girls, of course!!), California, Mexico and more. I enjoy listening to their entertaining conversations, Wrigley enjoys the snacks on the flight!

the last round of pre-k

It's official. . .this is our family's last year of pre-school. . our 5th and final!! We have been so blessed with great teachers and a wonderful environment at Castleview; if I had to go back through it all again, I wouldn't change a thing!

Cole will be gone M-W-F mornings from 9-11:30 and will have Mrs. Lamke again (Terry calls her the epitome of the perfect preschool teacher--you'd probably agree if you saw her in action!). The best part of it all is that there are only 9 kids in the class with 2 teachers--there will be tons of learning going on.

Cole was pretty excited to go to school--his good buddy Derek is in our carpool and his class. It will be fun to watch him progress this year!

busha and the bird

This weekend, Cole went with my mom and dad up to Chicago to visit my Grandma. Our kids call her Busha (polish for Grandma) and Cole couldn't wait to go to her house--because she has a bird. He spent the day holding it, letting it sit on his head, his back and who knows where else. Of course each of our kids love getting time with their grandparents without his brothers to share it! I would be curious to see how old everyone thinks my grandma is. . .I sure don't think she looks almost 96. . .and she still lives by herself and mows her own grass!
